RemediChain's Impact

RemediChain’s mission is to solve the financial and environmental problems of prescription waste by legally rescuing unused, good condition prescription medication to share with patients who could not otherwise afford it. By treating extra medication as a resource and through partnerships with lawmakers, providers, advocates, pharmacists, nonprofits and patients, we strive to ensure no patient in need goes without.

Dollar value of rescued medication from 2020-2025

These numbers are based on the typical retail prices for each medication – a standard in pharmacy known as the Average Wholesale Price (AWP).

Dollar value of medication provided to patients from 2020-2025

These numbers are also based on Average Wholesale Price – but RemediChain patients get medication at no cost – $0.

Average medication value provided per dollar of operational costs

In 2020, that number was $10 for every $1 in operational costs. By 2025, it had grown to $50 per every $1 in operational costs.

READ THE FULL IMPACT REPORT

Back in 2018, when we first worked with Tennessee lawmakers in support of allowing individuals to donate unused medication, the successes we experienced in 2025 seemed like a long shot, a hope that one day we could help people.

We rescued our first medications in 2018 and dispensed our first prescription to a patient in need in 2020. Both numbers have grown annually ever since, and in 2025 we more than doubled our impact from the prior year. The growth is thanks in part to individual donors (of both the medication and the financial support variety) and the many providers and caregivers helping us close the gap between unused medications and patients who need them.

These days, medication donation is not such a fringe concept, and we’re so proud to be on the leading edge of it. As we enter this new chapter of Medication Rescue, here’s our first-ever impact report. It includes both all-time and 2025 numbers, and it will become the basis for future annual reports.

The report chronicles our efforts to make medication rescue universally viable and to support a shift in the U.S. health care landscape to put patients first. I hope you’ll join us.
