MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 21, 2021 – Good Shepherd Health, the parent company for Good Shepherd Pharmacy, RemediChain and HaloScrips, recently announced that Michell Zulu, PharmD, has joined the team as its new chief pharmacy officer.
“Michell is an outstanding pharmacist whose talent and passion are unparalleled,” said Phil Baker, PharmD, founder and CEO of Good Shepherd Health. “She’s a longtime friend and an inspiration to me in pharmacy. I truly believe her knowledge and skill set are just what we need as our family of companies expands its footprint across the United States.”
In her new role, Zulu will hold myriad responsibilities, including overseeing Good Shepherd Pharmacy’s day-to-day operations; coordinating an apprenticeship program for pharmacy technicians; facilitating RemediChain’s nationwide drug recycling/reclamation program; serving patients through Good Shepherd and HaloScrips’ Medication Therapy Management program; and working in association with the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy faculty as needed.
Before joining Good Shepherd, Zulu gained experience in various facets of the pharmaceutical industry, proving versatility to be a strong personal asset that is beneficial in her new role. Her dedication to providing top-notch care was obvious in her previous work as a pharmacy manager at Kroger, as a clinical pharmacist at Baptist Rehabilitation Hospital and as the director of pharmacy at Select Specialty Hospital. Zulu also spent time as an adjunct professor at Christian Brothers University’s physician assistant program, which gave her an outlet to prepare a new generation of professionals for the ever-evolving field.
“My position at Good Shepherd not only allows me to help patients in need, but also to change the tide on our industry’s status quo,” said Zulu. “The health care industry is in dire need of more institutions like Good Shepherd Health that are invested in serving people too often left behind by traditional patient care models. I intend to spend my time here assisting as many as possible while continuing the organization’s mission of reforming our industry for the good of all patients.”
Zulu graduated from Bethel University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in science, and from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2013 with a Doctor of Pharmacy. She holds various licenses and certifications, including a Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy license; a Medication Therapy Management license from OutcomesMTM and Socrates; Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association; and an immunization certification from the American Pharmacists Association. Zulu is also a member of the American Pharmacists Association and Memphis Area Pharmacists Society.
About Good Shepherd Pharmacy
Good Shepherd is a nonprofit pharmacy designed to meet the needs of people who can’t afford their medications. The GoodShepRx membership program provides access to at-cost or donated medication to more than 1,000 vulnerable patients with chronic conditions. In 2017, Good Shepherd Pharmacy gained national recognition for the creation of a prescription repository, which accepts prescription donations from any individual in the United States. In 2018, the team launched RemediChain, a blockchain platform that connects people who wish to donate unopened chemotherapy to those who would not otherwise be able to afford their life-saving medication. And in 2020, it expanded to another venture, HaloScrips – a concierge pharmacy for employers that dramatically lowers pharmacy spend. For a fixed fee per person, it sells medications to employers at true acquisition cost with no markups – there are no middlemen, no negotiations, no spread pricing and no hidden fees.
